Three things to understand first
1. Eligibility is about functional impact
A medical practitioner must certify the effects of the impairment. The CRA considers marked restriction in an eligible category, significant limitations in two or more categories, or life sustaining therapy.
2. The application has two parts
The applicant completes Part A of Form T2201 and a medical practitioner completes Part B. The CRA currently accepts applications through its digital process or by mail.
3. Approval may open other planning doors
DTC eligibility may help someone access other federal programs, including the Registered Disability Savings Plan. Approval is not the same as an individualized financial recommendation; the next step depends on your circumstances.
